Dismantling Racism

In June of 2020 the Session adopted a statement committing West Raleigh Presbyterian Church to dismantling racism, and established a Dismantling Racism Task Force. What does the statement actually say?  What does “dismantling racism” mean?  How do we even begin?  What do we expect to happen as a result of our efforts?

These and other questions you may have will be explored on three consecutive Sunday mornings on September 19, 26, and October 3 at 9:30 AM via Zoom.

The sessions will be led by members of The Dismantling Racism Task Force and Session during the Adult and Youth Formation hour.  The gatherings will begin at 9:30 AM and end at 10:30 AM.  Yes, that’s 15 minutes earlier than usual to accommodate our moving from zoom to the Sanctuary for worship at 11:00 AM.

As the statement says, it will take every member of West Raleigh examining their “…own unconscious prejudices with clear eyes..” and together “..resisting and opposing the culture of white supremacy in all ways…” “…in order to shape a beloved community that embraces and cares equitably for all of God’s people.”
