An Update from the WRPC Welcome Home Steering Committee

“When immigrants live in your land with you, you must not cheat them.  Any immigrant who lives with you must be treated as if they were one of your citizens. You must love them as yourself, because you were immigrants in the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.”

- Leviticus  19:33-34

Common English Bible

As we begin a new year of hope and possibilities, we wanted to thank you for your interest and support as we plan to welcome an Afghan family to the Triangle.  Without your prayers, donations, and offers to assist a refugee family settle into this area, we would be at a loss.

Untitled design 1We also wanted to keep you abreast of current endeavors.   At this time, we are waiting to be scheduled by the NC field office of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants [USCRI] (our partner) to assist with a long-term and/or a short-term move in.

  • Finding short and long-term housing continues to be an issue for USCRI.  If you are aware of any such housing opportunities, please let Mark Zaineddin know and he can pass the information on to our contact at USCRI.

In the meantime, the NC field office of USCRI is considering other ways its Welcome Home partners may be of assistance and, if we hear of such opportunities, we will let you know!

While we wait to welcome a family to the Triangle, we are still collecting needed home furnishings and will soon be soliciting needed pantry items.  Financial donations are always appreciated and can be offered electronically through West Raleigh’s Realm portal or by check (noting that the donation is for refugee support).

Once again thanks for your steadfast support and willingness to help welcome refugee families to the Triangle.
